Join us for a two-day, in-person course in the vibrant city of Chicago, designed for healthcare professionals committed to advancing their expertise in diabetes prevention and lifestyle coaching. This immersive program, led by an ADCES Master Lifestyle Coach trainer, combines interactive learning with online self-study modules as pre-work. Participants will delve into the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP), gaining the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively implement and facilitate CDC-recognized lifestyle change programs. The course features hands-on activities, including case studies, group facilitation techniques, and role-playing exercises, ensuring participants are equipped to drive positive health behavior change in their communities.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe the evidence base of the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) and its translation into the National DPP and PreventT2.
- Define the role of a lifestyle coach and compare it with other diabetes education professionals.
- Identify participant eligibility criteria and outcomes for the National DPP.
- Review and utilize PreventT2 materials to support skill-building and psychosocial development.
- Diagram and apply core and maintenance sessions of PreventT2 to facilitate effective group sessions.
- Practice lifestyle coaching and group facilitation techniques to enhance participant engagement and retention.
- Identify how to meet National Diabetes Prevention Program Recognition Standards.
- Discuss the national landscape of the diabetes prevention program, including coverage by various payers.
Activity Type
This is a knowledge-based activity. This 12-hour in-person course includes online prework, lecture, participant presentations, discussion, and question and answer periods.
Intended Audience
In order to participate in this training, attendees must:
- Meet all CDC requirements for Master Lifestyle Coach Trainers:
- Complete 12 hours of formal training as a lifestyle coach
- Successfully offer a CDC-recognized lifestyle change program for at least one year prior to the Master Lifestyle Coach Training
- Align with ADCES’ key priorities for Master Lifestyle Coach Trainers:
- Complete training in the PreventT2 curriculum at an ADCES Lifestyle Coach Training
- Successfully deliver the PreventT2 curriculum at a CDC-recognized organization (Note: ADCES will give preference to those with full recognition)
- Continue to train under ADCES’ Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
- Support the training of Lifestyle Coaches in CDC’s PreventT2 curriculum:
- Serve as an independent contractor to facilitate ADCES’s public and private Lifestyle Coach Trainings and online Lifestyle Coach training modules
- Contract with ADCES for capacity building trainings through purchasing appropriate training packages, reporting results, and continuing to provide high quality education
- Utilize ADCES as a resource for materials, advanced lifestyle coach training, and ongoing support for trained lifestyle coaches
