This conference will cover the updates to the 2025 ADA Standards of Care and the key elements of the standards that improve clinical care for people with diabetes. The next topic will cover the diagnosis and symptoms of the different immune mediated diabetes types. The conference will finish with the practical approaches to the treatment of these types of diabetes.

2025 ADA Standards of Care Update: The Different Faces of Diabetes

Activity description: Learners in attendance will receive a comprehensive update on the latest in diabetes care and management by dissecting the 2025 ADA diabetes standards of care interspersed with the latest pharmacologic interventions using a case study approach. In addition, learners will learn how to recognize the different types of diabetes, including; type 1, type 2, LADA, GDM, Type 3c, Type 3, MODY and Ketosis Prone Type 2 and the clinical significance of each.

Target audience: This activity is designed for individuals or groups of diabetes care and education specialists including Nurses, Dietitians, Pharmacists, PAs, Social Workers, and other health care providers interested in staying up to date on current practices of care for people with diabetes and other related conditions.

Requirements for successful completion: For successful completion, participants are required to attend the full activity, and complete and submit the program evaluation at the conclusion of the educational event. Your Statement of Credit will be issued upon submission of the evaluation form. Pharmacists must provide their date of birth (MMDD) and NABP ePID to receive credit. Pharmacist learners who fail to provide this information will not receive credit for this activity. Please check your NABP profile within 45 days of this activity to make sure your credits were uploaded. Per the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board, nurse practitioners are eligible to claim continuing education contact hours from ANCC

Objectives:

  1. State 3 changes and updates to the annual ADA Standards of Medical Care in Diabetes.
  2. List at least one key element of the discussed standards that improve clinical care for people with diabetes.
  3. Describe strategies to use the ADA hyperglycemia algorithm to determine appropriate use of the latest medications that address hyperglycemia and cardiorenal health.
  4. Discuss the diagnosis and symptoms of the different types of immune mediated diabetes.  
  5. Describe clinical manifestations of type 2, GDM, type 3, type 3c and MODY.
  6. Share practical approaches to treat these different types of diabetes presentations in clinical care.

As a Jointly Accredited Organization, the Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. The Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists maintains responsibility for this course. Social workers completing this course receive 6.5 continuing education credits.

Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialists: To satisfy the requirements for renewal of certification for the Certification Board for Diabetes Care and Education (CBDCE), continuing education activities must be diabetes related and approved by a provider on the CBDCE list of Approved Providers (http://www.cbdce.org). CBDCE does not approve continuing education. The Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists is on the CBDCE list of Approved Providers.
