Diabetes Podcasts: Learning by listening

Mar 22, 2017, 17:03 PM

O

ver the past couple of years, my love for podcasts has grown! Are you a subscriber? One day I searched in my phone for podcasts and found out how to access them. I had heard of podcasts but wasn’t really sure how they worked. Now Apple users have their own “Podcasts” app that comes pre-installed on their devices. Within that app, you can search for any topic. If you search for diabetes, you will find numerous podcasts. Some target professionals and some are people with diabetes talking about their experiences. Here are a few that I found helpful:

For Health Professionals

Diabetes Core Update: From the American Diabetes Association (ADA). It's just 15 minutes and discusses five to six recently published research articles from ADA journals.

Medscape Diabetes & Endocrinology Podcast: Super quick three- to 15 minute interviews with diabetes professionals on a topic.

The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology Podcast: Similar to Medscape with short 4-20 minutes discussing news, research, reviews in diabetes, endocrinology, and metabolism.

I really enjoy listening to podcasts at one and a half times the recorded speed (or 1.5X), because it helps my mind not drift as much...This is a great way to get extra education on your commute.

Targeted Toward People Living with Diabetes

Juicebox Podcast: (Type 1 diabetes) I love to hear personal stories about diabetes on the front lines. We can hear hours and hours of training and research but I find it fascinating to listen to how it actually plays out in real life with someone living with diabetes. Scott Benner is the father of a child with type 1 diabetes and he interviews others on related topics.

Diabetes Power Show: A team of three people with diabetes who discuss their experiences.

Blogging Diabetes Podcasts with Tony Rose: Tony Rose starting blogging about five years ago and has started a podcast. He interviews several experts in the field.

I really enjoy listening to podcasts at one and a half times the recorded speed (or 1.5X), because it helps my mind not drift as much. I mostly listen in my car via Bluetooth but I also use headphones sometimes. This is a great way to get extra education on your commute. Subscribing to a podcast means that it will be in a favorites area of the app and you will get a notification when a new episode is released.

There are so many more podcasts out there; I’d love to hear your favorite diabetes-related podcasts!
