All insulins below are U-100 rapid-acting unless otherwise noted. Compatibility is device-model-specific — an insulin labeled for one device model is not automatically labeled for another from the same manufacturer.

6 Insulet Omnipod GO is a fixed-rate basal-only patch pump indicated for Type 2 diabetes, ages 18+. Available in select geographies with a prescription. Does not connect to a CGM.

Connected Pens & Caps

Unlike pumps, connected pens and pen caps are designed for specific cartridge and prefilled pen formats. The insulin alone does not determine compatibility.

5 InPen handles bolus/mealtime dosing only — basal insulin is injected separately and is not metered or tracked by InPen. Lyumjev has no compatible 3.0 mL cartridge format — a packaging gap, not a clinical incompatibility.

Bigfoot Unity uses pen-device-specific caps (KwikPen, FlexPen, FlexTouch, SoloStar) and also covers U-200/U-300 concentration pens and unbranded biologic equivalents not shown in this simplified chart — confirm the exact pen on Bigfoot's current compatible-insulins list.

Long-Acting / Basal Insulin

Only one connected pen cap in this reference is labeled for use with basal insulin.

Before You Prescribe, Fill, or Train

  • Confirm the exact device model. Compatibility is tied to the specific device, not the manufacturer or brand family.
  • Confirm insulin concentration. All devices above are intended for U-100 insulin unless noted. U-200, U-300, and U-500 insulins should not be substituted unless the device labeling specifically allows it.
  • Confirm the insulin name and formulation. Some devices list specific branded products, biosimilars, or cartridge formats — not all insulin aspart or insulin lispro products are automatically interchangeable for device use.
  • Watch for biosimilar substitution. Kirsty (insulin aspart) is an interchangeable biosimilar of NovoLog, the brand-name insulin it was developed to match — a pharmacist may substitute it without prescriber sign-off, subject to state law. The absence of a biosimilar insulin from a device's labeling does not automatically mean its use with that device is off-label; check the device User Guide and the insulin's prescribing information (section 2.2).
  • Use shared decision-making. Insulin and device choices should weigh clinical needs, safety, cost and coverage, access, dexterity, vision, technology comfort, and the preferences of the person using the device.
Device labeling and insulin compatibility change over time. This is a point-in-time reference, not clinical decision support. Always verify against the current instructions for use, safety information, or prescribing information before making clinical decisions.
