Abbott Diabetes Care announces launch of continuous glucose + ketone monitoring system, Libre DUO 10 Day sensor.

If you've been hearing whispers about a new kind of sensor on the horizon, you're not imagining things. The FreeStyle Libre brand is preparing to launch a sensor that does something no continuous sensor has done before: track two different analytes at once — glucose and ketones.

Key takeaways

  • It's the first continuous sensor to monitor two analytes for diabetes care
  • FDA-cleared August 25, 2026
  • Expected to be available in the US by the end of 2026
  • Approved for ages 2 and up

Introducing the New Continuous Glucose + Ketone Sensor

Abbott Diabetes Care — the makers of the FreeStyle Libre continuous glucose monitoring systems — is preparing to launch its new Libre DUO 10 Day System, designed for people with diabetes ages 2 years and older.

This single sensor does double duty:

  • Tracks glucose minute-by-minute, just like existing Libre sensors
  • Monitors ketones in the background at the same time
  • Triggers an Urgent High Ketones alarm when levels climb above 3.0 mmol/L

The sensor measures β-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) - the same analyte hospital laboratories measure in the blood - bringing that same clinical-grade marker to a wearable, continuous format for the first time.

Leveraging the Libre Ecosystem

The DUO sensor is designed to leverage the same reporting and data-sharing ecosystem that Libre users are already familiar with:
