With the November 3 election quickly approaching, much of the spotlight has been on the presidential election, yet there are many other elections taking place on the local and state level. ADCES created Your Diabetes Decision-Making Guide to the 2020 Election to help diabetes care and education specialists engage with candidates for elected offices. This guide is meant to help you speak to candidates for any elected office about their healthcare policies and discuss with them the importance of ensuring that all people with diabetes have access to the services, medications, technology and supplies they need to manage their diabetes.
An important aspect of using this guide is finding out who is running for office in your area. The ADCES Legislative Action Center is a great way to obtain this information and here are a few easy steps you can take to find out who is running for office near you:
- Visit the ADCES Legislative Action Center at DiabetesEducator.org/ActNow.
- Click on “Elections” in the navigation bar.
- Enter your home address where it says “Find Your Elections”
After you take these steps, you will be taken to a page that has the voter information, including voter registration information, registration deadlines, and eligibility requirements to vote in your area. You will also see a tab with the elections in your area. You can click through the tabs and find out more about who is running in each race.
If you aren’t familiar with a candidate, you can do a quick Internet search to learn more and find their campaign website or social media page. The ADCES diabetes decision-making guide to the 2020 election will help prepare you should you decide to reach out to a campaign or candidate for office and ask questions or learn more about the candidate’s healthcare platform.
Each election presents an opportunity to elect legislators who will support important diabetes policies. We hope you use these tools and resources, including the “Elections” feature of the Legislative Action Center to help in this process!
