Happy 2nd Birthday to the AADE Blog!

Apr 5, 2012, 01:00 AM

Progressing from "Where's Waldo" to "On the Cover of Rolling Stone magazine" to hopefully, "You've Got Mail!"

Wow!  We started the AADE blog 2 years ago. As we enter our 3rd year, I would like to start as I have the past 2 years. Asking: What would you like to read, know, and share!

Looking over the topics of this past year, the bloggers have blogged about working with people with type 1, type 2, and gestational diabetes; insurance/Medicare issues; advocacy for diabetes educators; preparation for the CDE exam and continuing education opportunities; immunizations; complications of diabetes; support groups; the Annual Meeting (Have you registered for 2012 yet?); the use of social media and smart phones in diabetes care; working with aging and physically challenged adults; clinical recommendations and tools; available materials for diabetes education; the patient-centered medical home; and AADE products and programs.  The five bloggers have different backgrounds and interests; we often write in our comfort zones and sometimes need to step out.  So, we want to know what you would like to read.  This is your blog!

I would love more interaction.  Many people tell me they read the blog, enjoy it, and do not reply.  That’s fine.  I am excited that the blog has become more accessible.  I used to feel like getting to the blog was like playing “Where’s Waldo?” You had to hunt for it.  Now, we are like “On the Cover of the Rolling Stone” as we have made it to the front page of the AADE site!  I think it’s great that when you go to the website, one of the first things you see is the latest blog.  If the topic interests you, click once to read more.  One more click, and you can respond, including your identity or anonymously.

My hope is to move into “You’ve Got Mail!” I would love it you could subscribe to the blog, if you wish, for delivery to your mailbox.  I think it would be great if it were similar to subscribing to the discussions and announcements from your AADE coordinating body, local networking group, and/or community of interest.  The blog would go to your mailbox, you could read the subject line, and click it open if you want.  What do you think about this?  There are pros and cons.  I, like so many of you, get hundreds of emails each day.  Sometimes it seems overwhelming.  However, I can quickly look at the sender or the subject and decide to open, leave unopened for now, or delete.  I would rather have the information I might want sent to me than to have to look for it like playing “Where’s Waldo?”

Would it be helpful if you could subscribe to the blog?  Would you like to have it dropped into your mailbox?  What would you like to see a blog about?  We would love to hear from you as we celebrate the start of our 3rd year!
