Description

This webinar will provide an overview of the 2025 ACC/AHA multi-society hypertension guidelines and their application to individuals with diabetes. The program will cover updated blood pressure categories and goals, new treatment recommendations, and the role of aldosteronism in hypertension management. Participants will gain practical knowledge to improve diagnosis and treatment strategies, ultimately enhancing patient outcomes.

Learners will be better able to understand the new hypertension guidelines including blood pressure goals and treatments.

At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:   
• List the new categories and goals for hypertension. 
• Describe the new treatment recommendations. 
• Explain how the new guidelines address aldosteronism.

Dr. Colleen Walsh-Irwin, DNP, RN, ANP-BC, AACC, EBP-C, FAANP, FAAN is the Director of the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program and a Clinical Assistant Professor at Stony Brook University School of Nursing. Dr. Walsh-Irwin has been an adult nurse practitioner in cardiology for the VA for over 30 years. She holds a Certificate of Specialization in Leadership and Management from Harvard Business School Online, is an Associate of the American College of Cardiology, a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) and a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN). In addition to being a speaker locally, regionally and nationally, she is well published in nursing textbooks and peer reviewed journals. Dr. Walsh-Irwin has served on multiple guidelines related to cardiac disease. She serves on the American Association of Nurse Practitioners Board of Directors. Dr. Walsh-Irwin has been the recipient of numerous awards including Nurse Practitioner of the Year for the Nurse Practitioner Association of Long Island, Distinguished Alumna Stony Brook School of Nursing, the VA Secretary's Award for Nursing Excellence and the AANP State Award for Excellence.

Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialists

To satisfy the requirements for renewal of certification for the Certification Board for Diabetes Care and Education (CBDCE), continuing education activities must be diabetes related and approved by a provider on the CBDCE list of Approved Providers (www.cbdce.org). CBDCE does not approve continuing education. The Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists is on the CBDCE list of Approved Providers.

Board Certified Advanced Diabetes Management (BC-ADM)

CBDCE is the administering body for the Advanced Diabetes Management credential. Continuing education programs offered by ADCES can be used toward fulfilling BC-ADM certification and recertification requirements.
