This online program focuses on Motivational Interviewing (MI) concepts and application, primarily in the context of addressing diabetes prevention and diabetes self-management behaviors.

This blended training experience includes 90 minutes of flexible, self-paced online learning followed by a two-hour live online workshop. The preliminary work builds a foundation, and then in the workshop you will get a chance to apply key concepts through discussion and guided practice activities.

Sarah E. Wheeler, PharmD, BCACP, CDCES

Sarah is an Assistant Professor at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Pharmacy, where she has taught motivational interviewing since 2020. Dr. Wheeler integrates her practice, scholarship, and teaching through a focus on cardiometabolic disease management, person-centered care, and experiential, skills-based teaching approaches. As a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist, she provides comprehensive diabetes care at VCU Health Hayes E. Willis Family Medicine Clinic, where motivational interviewing is central to her approach. She is passionate about equipping clinicians with practical, person-centered approaches to care.
