ADCES's Commitment to Inclusion

Building a community where every member feels seen, heard and valued.

A Core Tenet of ADCES

At ADCES, we’re building a community where every member can participate, contribute and access resources that support professional growth. ADCES values diverse professional experiences and perspectives that help strengthen education, practice, and improve quality of life for people living with diabetes.

The ADCES Inclusion Council provides a forum for advancing member diversity and cultivating a culture of community and belonging. Through this work, we strive to ensure members from a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, and practice settings can engage and access opportunities for professional growth and leadership.

ADCES Inclusion Council

The Inclusion Council was created on the foundation of the organization’s commitment to fostering an environment where members can engage, contribute, and thrive.

Initiated by the ADCES Board of Directors and launched in 2021, the Inclusion Council and its members support organizational initiatives that encourage broad participation and member engagement across the ADCES community.

ADCES’s Inclusion Council members reflect a broad range of member experiences and perspectives, and support educational efforts focused on fostering effective communication, professional development, and a commitment to high-quality diabetes care.

The Council models ADCES’s commitment to serving members across diverse practice settings and communities that may experience barriers to healthcare access and optimal outcomes.

The Inclusion Council acts as a trusted voice to leadership, gaining insights and sharing valuable member perspectives and feedback to inform organizational priorities.

Through thoughtful engagement and collaboration, ADCES and The Council seek to highlight approaches that support respectful communication and patient-centeredness.

The Inclusion Council serves as a forum for sharing member perspectives that help ADCES strengthen engagement, expand participation, and support a professional community that represents the many roles, experiences, and practice environments within diabetes care and education.

Through this work, the Council contributes to ADCES's strategic goal of growing and strengthening membership while supporting excellence in diabetes care and education.

Perspectives

From Our Council Leaders

Leaders of ADCES’s Inclusion Council bring complementary perspectives that underscore the value of inclusion in diabetes care. Kathy B. Doane highlights how cultural understanding and patient-centered care drive trust and better outcomes, while Shaun Hui emphasizes the importance of representation, cultural humility, and creating respectful, affirming environments. Together, they illustrate how inclusive approaches strengthen both the profession and patient care.
