The CalorieKing smartphone app gives users nutritional information for over 150,000 foods.

People with diabetes and those tracking carbs may find the app helpful for meal planning, making food choices and determining nutrients according to portion size.

Anyone with diabetes using meal-time insulin or counting carbs would benefit from using the CalorieKing food database. Viewing carbs, sugars and fiber values in food can help users determine appropriate meal-time insulin doses.

Using the app, users can search for food items by:

  • brands

  • food categories (fruits, vegetables, etc.)

After users find the food item they are searching for, they can tap on it to view:

  • fiber and protein
  • portion sizes

The Calorie King Food Search mobile app functions on multiple devices and tablets. 

Valuable Features of the Calorie King Mobile App:
  • Nutrition information is available for over 150,000 foods in the database. The expansive database includes foods for purchase in a variety of settings such as a supermarket, farmers market, big box store food court or fast-food chain restaurants.  
  • The app is constantly updated. By tapping on an item, you can quickly access information about protein, fat, carbohydrate, saturated fat, cholesterol, sodium and alcohol content of food and beverages. Many products offer additional nutritional information. 
  • Includes 260 fast food chains and restaurants.

The home screen allows you to search for nutritional information using the following categories:
Food Categories
Food categories includes alcoholic drinks, bars, breakfast cereals, beverages, breads, cakes, candy, cheese, desserts, eggs, meats, fast-Foods, butter, oils, condiments, frozen and packaged foods, fruits, vegetables, legumes, grains, pasta, snacks, or toppings. 
For example, if you select the vegetable category, you have a choice of canned vegetables, fresh or dried vegetables, frozen vegetables of packaged vegetables. If you click on frozen vegetables, it will bring you to a full screen of brands, where you can explore the type of vegetable. Choose a brand, then select frozen, canned, fresh, or dried vegetables.  The next screen will allow you to select any of the brand’s current products and will provide available nutrition information. 
Food Brands
The food brands screen offers an extensive list of brands, organized in alphabetical order. Select a brand, and progress to the next screen, where you can choose a specific product. Once you click on that product, the available nutrition information will display. 
Fast Food Chains
The fast-food chains screen offers vast array of options from across the United States. Once you select a fast-food restaurant option, it allows you to choose from available products. Depending on the establishment, they provide nutritional information on menu items including appetizers, beverages, condiments (including salad dressings) and desserts. This extensive list includes ice cream shops and available food offerings in big box stores such as Costco.

Scan Barcode
The app includes a barcode scanning feature for packaged food items. This feature provides nutritional information for items included in the database. 

Calorie King has a separate free food and exercise diary app called ControlMyWeight which is also available via the web at https://program.calorieking.com.

  • log meals
  • save food photos
