Omnipod 5

The Omnipod 5 App is a part of the Omnipod 5 Automated Insulin Delivery (AID) System. People can use the app on the Omnipod controller or their compatible Smartphone.

The Omnipod 5 System includes the app, the Dexcom G6 CGM and the Pod. The Omnipod 5 App can control the Pod, a tubeless insulin holder that attaches to the user’s body. A signal from the Omnipod 5 App — or glucose readings from the Dexcom G6 — triggers the Pod to release insulin.

Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support (DSMES) is structured around seven diabetes self-care behaviors, known as the ADCES7 Self-Care Behaviors®. Diabetes care and education specialists can help you set priorities and work with you on improving your own management in each of the following areas:

  • Taking Medication - Adhering to prescribed medication in terms of timing, dosage, frequency, and duration.
  • Monitoring - Tracking data influencing diabetes outcomes.
  • Problem Solving - Identifying and solving issues for better diabetes outcomes.

Users must operate the Omnipod 5 App on the provided controller or a compatible Android device. An active Bluetooth connection between the device running the app and the Pod is required.

For successful use, the Omnipod 5 App must:

  • get regular updates to the latest version of the app
  • have specific smartphone settings enabled (recommended Android settings)
  • stay within 5 feet of the Pod to restore a lost Bluetooth® connection.

Is Omnipod 5 Safe and Secure?

The Omnipod 5 App requires login authentication to secure communication with the Pod. All communication between the Pod and the app is encrypted. A verification system ensures only the Omnipod 5 App can connect to the Pod. These measures safeguard the app, Pod and cloud communication from security threats.
