Starting March 1, 2022 ADCES CE offerings will include credit from the Association of Social Work Boards.

The Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists (ADCES) is now proud to offer continuing education credit to social workers through its educational offerings. This development expands ADCES’ work from 2020, when it received joint accreditation to provide continuing education that encompasses the comprehensive diabetes care team.

ADCES already provides continuing education credits to medical, nursing, pharmacy, dietitian, and PA professionals through a single set of accreditation standards, the Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional Continuing Education. This unified framework promotes education that is designed by the health care team, for the health care team.

ADCES recognizes that social work professionals are key members of the care team, helping individuals navigate the psychosocial aspects of living with diabetes, while connecting and supporting clients with appropriate care and resources to aid in self-management and coping strategies. This prompted the association’s decision to add the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) credit to our Jointly Accredited CME/CE offerings. The development of this new educational opportunity for social work professionals aligns with the ADCES vision for a model of person-centered diabetes care that is collaborative and brings various healthcare professions together through team-based planning and learning.

Starting March 1, 2022, ADCES CE offerings that are at least 1-hour in length (per ASWB policy) will provide social work credit by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. A full rollout of this new credit will also be implemented at the state and local level through ADCES coordinating bodies and local networking groups, opening new networking and partnership opportunities nationally. We look forward to engaging social work professionals in the design and delivery of ADCES education moving forward.

Please visit the joint accreditation website and this fact sheet for more information about interprofessional continuing education.
