Late Breaking Research Abstract Submission is Now Open Until Tuesday April 30, 2019!

The American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE) Annual Meeting is my favorite meeting of the year. I reconnect with dear friends and colleagues and really get to focus on the significant facets of my profession; learning how to make managing diabetes easier for people living with diabetes. While the focus of the meeting is often thought of as being geared towards clinical practice for diabetes specialists, there is significant interest in addressing the latest research that directly impacts diabetes specialists and diabetes education services. Diabetes specialists are also very eager to translate the latest research into their practice. 

Do you have interesting data that diabetes specialists would benefit from learning about? If so, please consider submitting a late breaking abstract for AADE19, taking place in Houston, TX August 9-12, 2019. The focus of this year’s meeting is diversity and inclusiveness, and with that in mind, AADE will, for the first time, publish all research podium abstracts in a special edition of The Diabetes Educator. How exciting! We are really paving the way for diabetes education research to be highlighted in the literature.

The abstract submission process requires the traditional abstract information including purpose, significance of the study, subjects, design, methods, data analysis, results, and conclusions. In addition, 3 learning objectives are required to evaluate participants' learning. 

The following topic tracks are open for submission:

  • AADE7 SELF-CARE BEHAVIORS® IN PRACTICE
  • THE BUSINESS SIDE OF DIABETES
  • CLINICAL DIABETES MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES
  • INCLUSIVE DIABETES CARE
  • POPULATION HEALTH
  • RISK REDUCTION/ DELAY OF TYPE 2 DIABETES
  • PSYCHOSOCIAL/BEHAVIORAL
  • TECHNOLOGY: DEVICES, DATA AND PATIENT GENERATED HEALTH DATA

If your research interests include technology-enabled self-management, I highly encourage you to submit your data as technology is a key factor in the evolving development of the AADE Vision for the Specialty. So, if your research spans any of these areas of focus and you have completed data to share, please submit to AADE by Tuesday, April 30. I look forward to seeing you in Houston!

About the Author

Greenwood is President and Owner of Deborah Greenwood Consulting, Sacramento, CA specializing in diabetes and digital health. She has published and lectured on technology enabled models of care, digital health, e-Patient engagement and social media for self-management support. She worked for Sutter Health for 10 years, most recently as a research scientist and program director for the largest AADE accredited DSMES program. She has a PhD in Nursing Science and Healthcare Leadership, focusing in Informatics.
