Celebrating 50 Years

Recognizing diabetes care and education leadership five decades in the making

Featured Member - Mark A. Smith, Jr., PharmD, CDCES, AAFA-CGFI

Mark A. Smith, Jr, PharmD, CDCES, AAFA-CGFI has been an ADCES® member for nine years.

Why do you love being a member?

I love the ample resources that ADCES provides its members. It increases our chance to positively impact people with diabetes. Membership for me serves as an opportunity to stay connected with other practitioners alongside this journey, working together as we enhance the lives of those with diabetes.

What is your favorite part about being a diabetes care and education specialist?

My favorite part about being a diabetes care and education specialist is the relationships and connections established during our annual ADCES conferences, along with the opportunity to use the knowledge acquired through recourses to improve the lives of our patients.

Top 5 ADCES resources/programs?

1. ADCES annual conference 2. ADCES In Practice Journal 3. ADCES Podcasts 4. ADCES Virtual Events 5. Building your DPP

What is one piece of advice you would give to a new diabetes care and education specialist or someone considering the profession?

Do it. If you have a desire to positively impact people with diabetes and prediabetes, this is the ideal specialist position for you. These credentials equip you with the necessary skills that it takes to influence those that have diabetes and prediabetes. It's one of the best decisions I've made in my life.
