Program Overview
Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in people with diabetes, yet opportunities to identify and address cardiovascular risk are often missed. This webinar will explore a comprehensive, guideline-aligned approach to ASCVD risk assessment and lipid management for primary prevention in adults with diabetes. Through case-based discussion, participants will learn how to apply contemporary risk assessment tools, identify risk-enhancing factors, evaluate the role of coronary artery calcium (CAC) scoring, and develop individualized lipid-lowering strategies. Attendees will also examine how incretin-based therapies influence cardiometabolic risk and integrate these considerations into patient-centered treatment plans that support adherence and improve long-term cardiovascular outcomes.
Learning Outcome
Attendees will be able to complete a guideline-consistent primary prevention 10- and 30-year risk assessment for an adult with diabetes, provide a list of risk-enhancing factors, and a lipid lowering plan that incorporates the impact of incretin therapies on lipid parameters.
Learning Objectives
1. Calculate 10- and 30-year CVD risk using the AHA PREVENT equations and state how PREVENT differs from the pooled cohort equations (PCE) in inputs and calibration.
2. Recall the ACC/AHA ASCVD risk-enhancing factors.
3. Formulate a comprehensive cardiometabolic treatment plan that incorporates an incretin-based therapy while optimizing guideline-directed lipid lowering treatment.
