Program Overview
Incretin-based therapies have an expanding role in the management of cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic (CKM) syndrome, including type 2 diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, and chronic kidney disease. This activity will review the impact of the incretin system on CKM syndrome and examine the role of incretin-based therapies in the management of CKM-related chronic conditions. Participants will review the different classes of incretin-based therapies, approved indications, and considerations for medication selection and use. The activity will also describe the role of the diabetes care and education specialist (DCES) in supporting medication selection, dosing adjustments, adverse effect management, and patient education.
Learning Outcome
DCESs and other healthcare team members will be able to apply evidence-based considerations for incretin-based therapy selection, initiation, dose titration, adverse effect management, and patient education to support individualized care for people with CKM syndrome.
