Providing personalized care can be challenging. To maximize chances for success, diabetes care and education specialists should work to gain insight into the person’s life experiences and try to meet them in their cultural space. The ADCES22 inclusive, person-centered education track is designed to give you this background, with sessions that discuss diabetes care as it relates race, religion, culture, income, body shape, disabilities and sexual orientation. Below is just a sampling of sessions you will find within this track.

If you often struggle with communicating with your Spanish speaking patients, attend the Medical Spanish for Diabetes session. Learn best practices for tailoring diabetes care while honoring cultural and religious practices through the session, Delivering Culturally Appropriate Care and Moving Beyond Awareness to Provide Sensitive, Person-Centered Care. Engage in a panel discussion on The Power of a Culturally Sensitive Approach to Plant-Based Nutrition and explore the role of food in Food as Cultural Heritage in Cross-Cultural Encounters. Attend the DIASPORA Approach and learn how to better communicate and deliver culturally competent care within the African American community.

Our underserved populations deserve dedicated care and resources. Create ways to pair the medical team and community partners to reach your underserved populations during the Promoting a Food-Secure and Healthier Community: Purple Apron, A Collaborative Approach session. Develop effective and compassionate communication and healthcare strategies for individuals of all sexual and gender orientations with the Navigate Discussion of Sexuality with People with Diabetes in the Dynamic Sexual Landscape: Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood session.

People of all sizes experience weight-related stigma. Become aware of your own implicit bias and help to reduce stigma-producing attitudes in yourself and those around you in the Impact of Equity on Treating Individuals with Excess Weight session.

Explore all ADCES22 sessions in the this education track here and make sure you register today. See you in Baltimore!
