Heading Home: Final Thoughts about the 2012 AADE Annual Meeting

Aug 9, 2012, 01:00 AM

I’m through security and waiting for my flight back home after the AADE Annual meeting.  I’m a bit sleepy and have to admit, I had a hard time not nodding off a bit in the very last session of the day.  Not because of the lack of interest in the subject or the great presenters, but because my days have been full to overflowing with all the activities at AADE and I could use a bit more sleep.  I attended a wide variety of excellent sessions from the how to’s of starting your own practice to pumps in the hospital setting to herbs our patients are taking.  I participated in the annual 5K run/walk, had meetings at 7:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., networked with a wide variety of people from across the United States, and visited exhibits to be aware of the new technologies for our patients. I also was able to attend a dinner celebration for a friend and mentor who received a national award.  I would say it was indeed a great and fulfilling week!

Next year AADE will be in Philadelphia.  I hear the committee will soon start to work on the program and will include even more talks for the advanced diabetes educator.  Good news for those of us who have been in practice for years and years!  Consider putting the event on your continuing education calendar for 2013!
