Your Invitation to Submit for Late Breaking Research Sessions at AADE19

In 2017, I had the opportunity to present a poster at the American Association of Diabetes Educators annual meeting in Indianapolis. This poster session was different than other meetings that I have attended on a national level. At most meetings, I have been assigned one day for a 2-hour block to present my research and answer questions from attendees. However, at the AADE meeting, the posters were presented over three consecutive days for 1-hour blocks. I found this experience to be very valuable as I had more attendees from the meeting come to discuss my research. It was also very rewarding to be part of the entire poster session made up of many diabetes educators from multiple disciplines that are excited to share their research.

The organization will be hosting AADE19 in Houston, Texas (August 9 through 12) and you can still submit for a late breaking abstract that open in the portal until April 30, 2019. Another exciting opportunity is that the organization is focusing on diversity and inclusiveness and will be publishing all the research podium abstracts for the first time in a special issue of The Diabetes Educator.
This submission for late breaking abstract is not difficult as it would follow a traditional abstract structure. You would submit the purpose, significance of the study, subjects, design, methods, data analysis, and results with conclusions through the portal. Three learning objectives would also be submitted with the abstract. The organization is looking for a topic specifically regarding the following:
- AADE7 SELF-CARE BEHAVIORS® IN PRACTICE
- THE BUSINESS SIDE OF DIABETES
- CLINICAL DIABETES MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES
- INCLUSIVE DIABETES CARE
- POPULATION HEALTH
- RISK REDUCTION/ DELAY OF TYPE 2 DIABETES
- PSYCHOSOCIAL/BEHAVIORAL
- TECHNOLOGY: DEVICES, DATA AND PATIENT GENERATED HEALTH DATA

About the Author
Jennifer Clements received her Doctorate of Pharmacy from Campbell University in 2006 and completed a primary care residency at a Veterans Affairs Medical Center in 2007. She is also a certified diabetes educator and board certified in pharmacotherapy. Currently, she is an Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Presbyterian College School of Pharmacy.
