The 2025 ADCES National Practice Survey shows that diabetes care and education specialists are more vital than ever, with roles expanding well beyond DSMES into technology training, medication management, behavioral health and whole-person care. DCESs are increasingly recognized as the go-to experts in diabetes technology, even as they navigate rapid innovation, including emerging AI tools. While job satisfaction remains high, ongoing challenges like time constraints, burnout, and keeping pace with technology highlight the need for continued support. A new international Consensus Statement on Diabetes Technology in Pregnancy provides clear, evidence-based guidance on using CGM and AID for pregnant individuals with type 1, type 2, or gestational diabetes. Developed by global experts and endorsed by 25 organizations including ADCES, the statement offers 14 practical recommendations that translate emerging evidence into clinical practice. It highlights how CGM and AID can improve pregnancy-specific time in range, glycemic stability, and maternal and neonatal outcomes, while addressing the unique physiological and emotional demands of pregnancy.

ADCES Research Committee member Jean Davis shares her thoughts on a recent study involving pregnant women and CGMs. The women valued real-time glucose data to adjust diet, activity, and insulin, but noted high costs, discomfort (especially during sleep), skin irritation from adhesive, and limitations in displays and food tracking. The study urges providers to advocate for more comfortable, user-friendly, and affordable CGMs to support maternal and fetal health. Research Committee Member Liseli Mulala writes about a study she found interesting in the October 2025 issue of ADCES's research journal: This 2025 study evaluated pharmacist-led diabetes care at Taipei City Hospital in Taiwan. Patients receiving monthly sessions with certified diabetes educators showed improved health literacy, adherence, LDL cholesterol, and weight, though A1c reductions were not significant. The findings demonstrate how culturally tailored, pharmacist-driven care can enhance diabetes outcomes across diverse populations.
