Description

The American Diabetes Association's (ADA) "Standards of Care in Diabetes" includes the ADA's current clinical practice recommendations and is intended to provide the components of diabetes care, general treatment goals and guidelines, and tools to evaluate quality of care. This 90-minute webinar will review the most recent updates to the standards of care.

This webinar satisfies the continuing education requirement for CDCESs to participate in CE activities related to the annual release of the ADA Standards of Care in Diabetes.

Learning Outcome

At the conclusion of this activity, learners will report increased knowledge of current ADA guidelines and evidence-based recommendations related to type 1 diabetes staging and screening, diabetes technology use, the 2026 type 2 diabetes treatment algorithm with a comprehensive metabolic health focus, the impact of psychological factors on diabetes outcomes, and available resources for underserved and medically complex populations.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:
1. Incorporate staging and screening guidelines for type 1 diabetes into clinical practice
2. Discuss changes in ADA guidelines as it relates to use of diabetes technology for all people with diabetes
3. Review the updated 2026 ADA treatment algorithm for type 2 diabetes with expanded recommendations focusing on comprehensive metabolic health to include MASLD, CKD and weight management
4. Describe the impact of psychological concerns on diabetes-related outcomes
5. Discuss resources for persons with diabetes who are underserved, income insecure and/or struggle with other medical or mental health challenges.

Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB)  As a Jointly Accredited Organization, the Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. Social workers completing this course receive 1.5 general continuing education credit(s).

Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialists

To satisfy the requirements for renewal of certification for the Certification Board for Diabetes Care and Education (CBDCE), continuing education activities must be diabetes related and approved by a provider on the CBDCE list of Approved Providers (www.cbdce.org). CBDCE does not approve continuing education. The Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists is on the CBDCE list of Approved Providers.

Board Certified Advanced Diabetes Management (BC-ADM)

CBDCE is the administering body for the Advanced Diabetes Management credentials. Continuing education programs offered by ADCES can be used toward fulfilling BC-ADM Certification and recertification requirements.

Other Health Professionals

It is the responsibility of each participant to determine if the program meets the criteria for re-licensure or recertification for their discipline.
