Description
This program is to educate and inform healthcare professionals and diabetes community care coordinators on some of the unique health beliefs that can influence people from different cultural backgrounds when providing diabetes care and prevention education, identify some of the potential cultural challenges and how to overcome them, and increase desirable cultural competency skills that promote effective communication when educating diverse populations.
This webinar counts toward the CDC requirement of 2 hours of continuing education for lifestyle coaches.
Learning Outcome
Attendees will be equipped with the tools needed to
support team practices in working with people with diabetes, focusing on
healthy coping skills and inclusion of risk and problem-solving behaviors.

At the end of this presentation,
participants will be able to:
• Describe the challenges of providing diabetes care and prevention education to diverse populations and how to overcome them.
• Recognize how health beliefs can influence behavior of people from different cultural backgrounds.
• Develop teaching strategies for providing education using Cultural Competence Model.
• Illustrate cultural competence skills that promote effective communication.
