Description

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is the most common chronic liver disease worldwide, affecting up to 70% of people with diabetes or obesity, yet remains frequently unrecognized. With rapid treatment advances, including two FDA-approved therapies for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), DCES can play a vital role in identifying and managing this cardiometabolic comorbidity. This session provides practical screening strategies, including FIB-4 calculation, evidence-based pharmacologic interventions following current guidelines, and comprehensive diabetes management approaches for people with MASLD. Through case-based application, attendees will gain actionable tools to identify, risk-stratify, and manage MASLD in clinical practice.

Learning Outcome

By the conclusion of this activity, participants will report increased confidence in their ability to identify, risk-stratify, and support the management of MASLD in people with diabetes, including applying screening strategies (e.g., FIB-4) and incorporating evidence-based treatment approaches into care.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:
• Identify people with diabetes at high risk for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) with clinically significant fibrosis.
• Interpret current guideline recommendations for reducing risk of cardiovascular disease and hepatic complications in people with diabetes and MASLD.
• Develop comprehensive evidence-based treatment and education plans to improve hepatic and cardiometabolic outcomes in people with diabetes.
