Protect and Preserve Kidney Function: A DCES Guide to CKD Management in People with Diabetes

Description

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) affects up to 40% of people with diabetes, often progressing silently without early symptoms. This session provides diabetes care and education specialists with critical insights into screening for, monitoring, and treating CKD using the latest clinical guidelines and recent clinical trial data. Participants will learn practical strategies for identifying kidney risk, communicating effectively with patients, and implementing evidence-based interventions to slow or prevent kidney disease progression. The presentation will cover the new race-free CKD-EPI eGFR equation, emerging medication approaches, and interdisciplinary methods for comprehensive diabetes management in people with CKD. Attendees will gain actionable knowledge to enhance patient care and potentially mitigate long-term kidney complications.

Learning Outcome

Attendees will apply evidence-based solutions and interventions for equitable healthcare, including comprehensive care for individuals with diabetes and related conditions, addressing behavioral health concerns, advocating for sustainable technology-enabled care, implementing interprofessional team practices, and enhancing clinical care and support in diverse settings.

This activity is designed for individual or groups of diabetes care and education specialists, including nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, nurse practitioners, physicians, PAs, social workers, and other health care providers interested in staying up to date on current practices of care for people with diabetes and other related conditions.

Board Certified Advanced Diabetes Management (BC-ADM)

ADCES is the administering body for the Advanced Diabetes Management credentials. Continuing education programs offered by ADCES can be used toward fulfilling BC-ADM Certification and recertification requirements.
