Description

Increased access to technology has accelerated momentum in the management of diabetes. Yet, as highly trained specialists in diabetes, we may experience a gap in awareness and understanding of all that is available, and how to recommend, use and collaborate on the use of these products in a way that meets individual needs. DCESs need to personalize therapeutic problem-solving tools to aid with the 24/7 nature of life with diabetes. In this session, we will examine the growth of technology, available and emerging apps and the benefits of leveraging technology to promote equitable care for people with diabetes.

Learning Outcome

Apply tailored intervention strategies based on person-centered characteristics to assess, educate, care for, and treat individuals at risk for diabetes and related cardiometabolic diseases, incorporating evidence-based science, self-care behaviors, behavioral health assessment, and leveraging technology for sustainable practice

Intended Audience

This activity is designed for individual or groups of diabetes care and education specialists, including nurses, dietitians, dietetic technicians, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, physicians, PAs, social workers, and other health care providers interested in staying up to date on current practices of care for people with diabetes and other related conditions.

Completion of this RD/DTR profession-specific or IPCE activity awards CPEUs (One IPCE credit = One CPEU). If the activity is dietetics-related but not targeted to RDs or DTRs, CPEUs may be claimed which are commensurate with participation in contact hours (One 60 minute hour = 1 CPEU. RDs and DTRs are to select activity type 102 in their Activity Log. Sphere and Competency selection is at the learner’s discretion.

Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialists

To satisfy the requirements for renewal of certification for the Certification Board for Diabetes Care and Education (CBDCE), continuing education activities must be diabetes related and approved by a provider on the CBDCE list of Approved Providers (www.cbdce.org). CBDCE does not approve continuing education. The Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists is on the CBDCE list of Approved Providers.

Board Certified Advanced Diabetes Management (BC-ADM)

ADCES is the administering body for the Advanced Diabetes Management credentials. Continuing education programs offered by ADCES can be used toward fulfilling BC-ADM Certification and recertification requirements.

Other Health Professionals

It is the responsibility of each participant to determine if the program meets the criteria for re-licensure or recertification for their discipline.
