Dr. Katelyn O'Brien is a clinical pharmacy specialist and certified diabetes care and education specialist. She graduated from the University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy and completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at VA Boston Health Care System. She works at Boston Medical Center (BMC), which is the largest health safety hospital in New England. She has worked at BMC for 9 years and has experience in adult primary care and adult endocrinology. Her areas of interest are diabetes technology, cardiometabolic care in type 2 diabetes, and has been a part of the health equity work for diabetes at the institution for 3 years. She was named the 2026 ADCES Diabetes Care and Education Specialist of the Year.

Casey Wells, PharmD, BCACP, CDCES, CPP
Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner
Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC)

Casey completed two years of pharmacy residency at MAHEC focused on caring for rural and underserved patients in Western North Carolina. Currently, Casey works in the MAHEC Internal Medicine and Endocrinology clinic with a primary focus on diabetes and technology. She is an active member in MAHEC's diabetes clinical trial team, including Insulet's SECURE-T2D trial gaining FDA indication for Omnipod 5 use with Type 2 Diabetes. Casey has completed countless trainings as a Certified Pod Trainer for Omnipod 5. She is a current member of the ATTD Early Career and Education committee. She also provides diabetes education to pharmacy and medical resident learners in Western North Carolina to enhance her support for expanding access to care for persons with diabetes.
